Música genética: Alan Sierra

Forthcoming exhibition
19 September - 19 December 2026
  • Overview
Música genética, Alan Sierra

PEANA is pleased to announce Música genética by Alan Sierra.

In Música genética, Alan Sierra returns to his investigation of the labor that sustains artistic production through a group of sculptures in which forms drawn from musical practice merge with others that recall everyday tools. Although each element retains part of its identity, the resulting objects can no longer be used or played in the expected way. Arranged as an orchestra without musicians, the sculptures form a composition that remains silent.

Other works explore the boundaries between drawing and musical notation or transform the interiors of instrument cases into constellations, game boards, and containers for eggs. These operations shift attention away from the finished artwork and toward the conditions that make its production possible. As in Sierra’s previous works on gestation, creation appears not as an isolated act of genius, but as a process tied to time, the body, and accumulated labor. The body of work suggests that the possibility of being an artist is a form of freedom built over generations—one that makes it possible to shape a world of one’s own.
