PEANA is pleased to present the work of Rita Ponce De León as part of the activities of Zona MACO 2021 Art Week in Mexico City.
Ponce De León’s work explores the way in which each individual engages in situations that enable -through artistic and learning processes- the generation of meaningful human bonds, even if ephemeral, which are made possible to a great extent by physicality and presence.
On this occasion, the artist presents ¡Me alegra mucho cuando veo personas! (2021), an activation that relies on the presence and participation of visitors. In the context of the events taking place at Casa Ortega, this intervention consists of an invitation to those attending the exhibition to place a small bell on one of the fingers of their hand, thus linking movement and bodily proximity with a specific sound. Ultimately, the rattling of the bells operates as a symbol of the vitality within each of the visitors, allowing the recognition of the presence of the other in a circumstance in which the relationship between bodies has come to be defined by distance.
